Root Canals in Victoria
Infections in the tooth roots can occur, and when they do, they often come with a great amount of pain and discomfort, and when left too long, they can lead to tooth loss. It’s important to head to your dentist as soon as you can when you feel or see symptoms of infection, such as swelling, severe pain, and abscesses. Infections like these can be taken care of quickly with a root canal treatment before the infection has a chance to spread.
What is a Root Canal?
Your teeth are held in place by deep roots that reach into your jaw. When the soft tissue in the “canals” of these roots becomes infected, it’s necessary to stop the infection. Root canal treatment (commonly known as a “root canal”) is the process dentists use to stop the infection and reinforce the affected tooth or teeth so you can go on living pain-free.
How Are Root Canals Treated?
A root canal treatment aims to remove the infected tissue and replace it with strengthened material. Our dentists do this by opening up the tooth, cleaning out the infected tissue, filling it with a common dental material called “gutta percha,” and restrengthening the tooth using a filling or dental crown.
